Jun 15, 2010 · 2510 Mule: starter, ignition or solinod problems. I am a mechanically challenged owner of a '96 Model 2510-4x4 (KAF620-A-2) with starting problems. Starting the vehicle has become increasing difficult; when the ingition is turned on there is frequently no response from the starter or the starter will engage momentarily...then silence.

I bought a 2510 new, fan blade on heater slung a blade off, linkage was not adjusted correctly on 4 wheel drive, kept popping like it was going to breake somthing,rear diff. did not have oil in it. I had to buy it on my own. Speaking of oil, ever 12-15 hours crankcase oil has to be changed because gas is in it. I have drained out 3 qt. I changed all the filters, drained the gas tank, put new fuel, oil, and it started fine. Now after about 30 hours it starts and stalls out when trying to use it.

You will need the crankshaft gear from a KAF620-A5 or A6. Those came factory with metal cam gears. Kawasaki part number for the proper gear is 59051-2112. I suspect you are correct in that the crankshaft is broken, they were defective and most were replaced by the dealers back when, but some escaped and it is now the owner's responsibility.
