On a friendly challenge from a noted Browning collector, he perfectly duplicated Felix Funken's "Smiling Dog" on the rear of the receiver on the 16 gauge.

I would guess that one or both of the ejector hammers in the forend tripped upon gun take down. A wooden dowel can be used to push them back to recock. Once in the cocked position the gun should reassemble. This does appear to be the problem and l have forwarded the link to my friend. To a great association.

I am the owner of a Parker Bros 12 gauge, double barrel shotgun. The serial number is 201435 and is marked VH (Vulcan Steel). The insides of the barrels are clean and shiny. Both firing pins work.
