Gravel would probably take longer than it took that guy to surround DT Westpoint with log walls. If you're planning lots of back and forth to set up a base, maybe just cut trees down as-needed and build floors with the wood in that area so they won't grow back in those spots. The reason for this secret military base was probably that military accessories used to only spawn there (clothes, backpacks, etc.). But since the stuff can be found everywhere, the reason for visiting this base is completely gone.
