Traffic congestion is a major consideration on Long Island and to address it various initiatives have been implemented. There are currently 80 miles of eastbound and westbound High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes in use on the Long Island Expressway (LIE, Interstate 495), between exits 32 (Nassau/Queens border) and 64 (Medford, Suffolk County).
Waverly Avenue crosses over the Long Island Expressway with no access other than to the service roads.
