Golden shower will lower his defense drastically, so get that. You are definitely already strong enough to fight him. I’m not the best person to ask but a lot of the battle happens vertically with skeletron prime thanks to the arms. Use a coppershortsword. Ichor and crystal bullet are a good way to up your dps.

Skeletron is a major pre-hardmode boss, but a relatively simple one. Simply prioritize his hands (Kill them at an equal rate, and try to kill them at the same time), then circle his head to dodge his skull projectiles. Be very mindful of his head, as it does a ridiculous amount of damage, especially when he stunlocks you when spinning.
