Apr 25, 2022 · 80. I've used 760 with 139-140's in a couple 7-08's. I recommend magnum primers with 760. I had one Sako A1 that would shoot less than an inch at 100 yards for five shot groups at 2825 fps with 140 BT's. That was 48.0 grs and flattened primers. My other favorite 7-08 powder is IMR-4350.
Three powders produced the highest velocity with 120-grain bullets in. John's 7mm-08 Remington. Accuracy was good, especially with W-760. Various handloading manuals list some impressive velocities for 120-grain bullets fired from the 7mm-08. The Nosler Reloading Guide 8 lists 3,262 fps as the fastest velocity for its Ballistic Tip. Load data for 7mm 150 gr. Scenar bullets in 7mm-08 is rare. The advice I was given from several CF members who are Lapua brand connoisseurs was to work up using Berger load data for their 150 gr. classic hunter bullets.You should work up you own powder charges anyways, but in my 7-08 I've always started a grain or two below published data. I got a M788 that I threw together a generic load for with Varget that worked well in 2 other 7mm-08's. It put the first 5 shots I took with it at 100 at just a smidge under an inch with that load. Not bad at all. Shooters World is in the process of developing reloading data to the SAAMI/ANSI standards. This data will be published to the Shooters World website, as it is generated and proofed in SAAMI test barrels, and compared against SAAMI reference ammunition. Useable Case Capaci: 48.679 grain H2O = 3.161 cm³. I've loaded a LOT now for the 7mm-08. Great cartridge and easy to load for, especially from a Tikka. IMR 4350 will work very well. Use the 4895 for 120 grainers. Varget and 120's are classic whitetail fodder. Big Game works well with 120's too. You could go heavier to a 160, but they’re really best used with the bigger 7mm remington magnum as the bullets get long enough that they start cutting into your powder capacity inside the case.
