If you ever do all that, check your barrel, as the civilian version had a thinner barrel (what I was told). If you have doubts, contact the dude that makes the heat shields. I grabbed one of the repro trench gun heat shields from Numerich that just came back in stock, for fun thought I would check some of my other shotguns and the heat shield will fit Mossberg 500 shotguns. Both the 1897 and the od green mossberg pictured have chopped down barrels.

Already have the gun by a matter of chance, but don't know anything specific (pops really needs to stop accidentally bidding on gunbroker).
