This is one of those times I think a gear trumps an HST. I'd rather replace a 200 dollar clutch then a 2,000 pump.

I have a 2015 L3901 HST with 287 hours on it. The tractor makes a whining noise when accelerating. The whine stops when the tractor is up to speed with no load on it. The whine is loud enough that it drowns out the engine noise. There is no whine when operating the backhoe or loader. All filters and fluids have been replaced with no change.The main concern is the tanks/reservoirs IN a tractor are open to the atmosphere (e.g., vented). Same for the fuel tank, HST tank, etc. As temperatures change, the fluid in those tanks/reservoirs expand and contract, inviting humidity into your tractor's tanks/reservoirs, causing condensation (water) in the tractor .
