Feb 17, 2021 · Hide Post. My P229R 40 caliber was purchased in early October 2005 and it's serial number is AM series. My P229 Tutone 9mm was purchased circa March 2006 and is marked AL 45 XXX. So it might have been made later than the AM or just stuck in someone's storage for a while. Yes. The P229 when it was originally introduced in 1992 did not have a rail. That continued I believe at least into into the late 1990s and maybe longer. Nov 5, 2017 · Those early P229's are really cool. Too bad it doesn't have an original barrel, but you can find one. More than likely the barrel didn't have a serial number anyway. Used DA/SA P229's are usually in the $550-$700 range depending on condition. I might pay a little more for an early one. BTW, .40 S&W and .357 SIG use the same magazine in the P229.
