Mar 9, 2021 · Honestly, I think a Coyote swap would be easier than a 3.5 or 2.7 EB. As big as the 'yote is, the twin turbos and piping eat up space in a hurry. Exhaust manifold clearance will likely be the make/break issue. For those that think the 5G Ranger's engine bay is tight, try stuffing a 302 into the previous US Ranger!

Re: 2.9 to 4.0 swap questions. it should be pretty much unbolt from one, bolt into the other. you'll have all the wiring, mounts, hoses, etc. your 2.9 trans will work, but probably not for long. the 2.9 trans isn't made for the torque of the 4.0. i would recommend just running the 4.0 trans or find a 5 speed for a 4.0.The 2.5 was a stroked (by 7 mm) version of the 2.3 OHC Ford Ranger engine. It also used higher-flow cylinder heads for better intake and combustion. It was replaced in 2001 by the Mazda-derived Duratec 23.
