With a little push, the socket fits snuggly around the outside of the lock mechanism and you can lower the spare tire. In my case, the socket stuck so well I could not remove it by pulling out the extensions.Hopefully the socket adheres to the spot and i will be able to stick a 1/2" drive into the socket and lower the spare tire.
