Jan 15, 2018 · I'm looking into getting an M1A/M14 with tax return season approaching. I've narrowed down my choices to a new production loaded M1A or a James River Armory M14. Both are about $1500. Id be mounting a scope and using it for recreational shooting and hunting. I finally found a gun club to join within driving distance that has ranges out to 600yds. The BM59 designers apparently figured a way to move the clip to a thicker location. The S/N is obviously hand stamped.LRB and Bula are generally considered the best builders of forged receivers. A good M14 is as reliable as an M1. I would say a Springfield M1A falls in that category. I am with the others here: take advantage of Springfield's warranty and don't change a bunch of parts out. Howdy. A while back I bought one of the original JRA M14's straight from James River. Back when they used USGI parts and before BULA started new production parts. JRA was using some Criterion barrels at that time and there was a batch that had rough chambering. My rifle was unfortunately one of them.

However, taking the heel and cutting off the lug and welding it to a current made semi-auto receiver is NOT illegal, nor is it considered a machine gun.
