Blocking windows with cars should deny zombies entry through them. As long as the car is close enough to the wall they won't be able to path to the window. Equip hammer, have nails and planks in inventory, right click on window, select barricade... however, the barricade option doesn't come up for windows or doors. Edit 1 to help answer some questions and keep everything in one spot. Using a normal "hammer" that is not broken, have enough loose nails, all items in personal inventory not in bags.
