Staying in the center of Copenhagen, you will likely need transport only from airport to hotel, hotel to cruise, and cruise back to airport. It is a bit of a hike from the center to Mermaid, but you can always take a boat tour from Nyhavn which includes the Mermaid on it's tour. Realize this is an old topic which has been answered before albeit in drips and draps. I have a party of 5 (me and my wife plus 3 young ones below 10) who are scheduled to be in Copenhagen in early Apr. The plan is for 3 days in Copenhagen before proceeding to Billund to stay at Hotel Legoland.

An adult ticket for an hour of public transport use in the city Centre will cost just 24kr per adult, kids are free. Public transport is extensive and very easy to use. Go for Copenhagen only. Much to see, and Aarhus would include way too much transport for such a short stay. If you mean the Danhostels, Ishøj, Bellahøj and Amager are not in the centre, so choose the City or Downtown Danhostels. There´s also the Generator Hostel. Edited: 10 years ago. There is no guarantee that you will be left on board. The harbour bus has a strict limit on the number of passengers. Although it looked half empty it left half the people waiting on the landing standing there, including myself. So you cannot really plan and rely on it.
