A 30A has a birch stock and no Marlin bullseye. The front sight is not on a ramp but dovetailed into the barrel. It has an endcap instead of bands. Mechanically, the 30AS is a 336 with a different labeling stamp. I think (not sure) that the 30AS was only available in 30-30.
